Re: hp dv5000z
The reason I ask is because I am having a tough time deciding between the hp dv5000z and the Acer Aspire AS9504EWSMi, both seem to have their pros and cons. I like the acer for its screen size and larger hard drive, (17in vs. 15.4in and 80GB vs. 60GB) However I like the HP because of its processor, (AMD Turion 64 1.8ghz vs. Celeron M 380 1.6ghz) and that fact that it has a graphics card. I heard that the Celeron will run the fan at all times producing noise. Also I am not sure if I will be able to update to the new Microsoft OS with the Celeron. I really just need the computer for the internet, music, and pictures but would like to have the option of playing age of empires or similar games. I am afraid that the aser does not have enough power for the screen size. Also does it have built in wireless? It wasn’t mentioned and I am not sure if that’s standard now our not. Both seem to be great prices with the acer for 799 and the HP for 699. The acer is at circuit city at http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Acer-...oductDetail.do
And the HP is at Costco at http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...opnav=&browse=
Any comments would be helpful! Thanks so much this site has helped a lot

Re: hp dv5000z
Please mate whatever you do, stay away from the Celeron processor, its bad news, i have one in my current pc and its a nightmate, which is why i am looking for a laptop with a turion processor. The dv5000 (which i am thinking of buying) has a turion 64bit processor which is future proof for the next few years anyway. Intel is yet to come up the goods to challenge the Turion64. Microsoft also said that Intel 32bit processors would be obselete by the end of 2006

I think he is confusing the old Celeron processor with the Celeron M. The only difference between the Celeron M and Pentium M is the lack of speed step technology and half the l2 cache. I think the Celeron M is a great bargain processor with maybe a 10-15% performance penalty versus the Turion that you are looking at (for 32bit apps). My A105-S1013 (Celeron M380) barely runs the fans at all, so those guys don't know what they are talking about. If you do play some light games, then I think the dv5000z is a good choice(make sure you get the 128meg of dedicated graphics mem), I would go take a look at both laptops in person and decide at the store. Good luck!
