Im gonna try this again.

Question:
Im gonna try this again.
I just can't seem to justify spending 2,000 dollars on a notebook. I recently purchased a dv4000 with a 1.7ghz p M centrino wxga etc etc etc. However, I fobbed up a few months ago when I bought it and didnt realize it wouldnt play any(most) games i like which demand a mainstream gpu.
EDIT: It has a built in Intell 900...whatever it is.
I have placed two orders and cancelled them both. Anyways, it might seem stupid, but I JUST WANT TO PLAY GAMES on my computer. I plan on trading or selling my computer and figure I can get 500-800 for it. So anyways, Im gonna try to fill this out again----but thinking a bit more practical this time.

Re: Im gonna try this again.
You can order the dv4000 with Ati x700 from compaq. It´s almost the same as your first notebook, and would let you play all the game at medium-high settings (Depends on each agme).
You can also get the E1705, wich with the coupon in the tab "dell coupons" you could get it for around 1k, and you could get the Nvidea go 7800, wich is a great gpu.
The 1505 is suposed to come with a mainstream gpu in one month, so maybe you could wait too.
I think for your budget the 1705 would be your best shot if you can lower the price with one coupon.

I think for your budget the 1705 would be your best shot if you can lower the price with one coupon. The HP DV4000 no longer has the option of the ATI x700 so I would not consider that. I agree the E1705 would be a good option if it could be gotten for $1000 but I rather doubt it will be possible. I think your best bet at this price range is to look at the HP DV5000z at HP.com. You could get one of these decently spec'd out at around $1000. Bear in mind that at this price range it is going to be practically impossible to get a laptop with discrete graphics. However, the DV5000z comes with the best currently available Integrated graphics solution, the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. While this is not blazingly fast by any means it is much, much better than the Intel Integrated Graphics that you currently have. I believe it would run the games you listed at least at lower settings. If this does not work then you really have no choice but to bump your price up to about $1500 to get something with a decent graphics solution. Anyway, good luck and happy computing!
P.S. If you order the DV5000z just make sure you get the 200M with 128 MB rather than the one with 32 MB. It is only a $25.00 upgrade and well worth it.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, the Acer 4404 with the x700 is worth a look.

Can you all post some links to online vendors or name a few brick and mortar retailers that might carry your recommendations?
I have googled them but can seem to find them in the price range discussed.

I have googled them but can seem to find them in the price range discussed. For the HP DV5000z just go to www.hpshopping.com and go to the HP notebooks and look under the DV5000 series. You will see options for the DV5000t and the DV5000z. Just pick the DV5000z option and configure to the specs you want and can afford. Just remember, get the ATI 200M with 128MB not the one with 32MB. Good luck!

Just an FYI, they also have a new model out the dv5000t and that can be customized with a core duo and a 128MB Nvidia 7400 video card, which will probably be out of your budget, but maybe you can spring for it if you really want to play some FPS games.
