High end performance laptop

Question:
High end performance laptop
I was going to wait for the newer XPS M170 or Sagers to come out. But I cant wait anymore.. so now Im looking at the XPS M170 and the Sager NP5720. Which would have the nicer monitor? Would consider a Sony or other high quality screen make as well.. though they usually seem to have a lower quality video card

Re: High end performance laptop
hmmmmm. sager or asus in a 15"-15.4" to keep it real (and mobile) --- not a dell fan over here. wait if you can for the new variants. 8-9lbs. is keeping you away from other DTR (17") choices. MSI might work too...
Answer:
Re: High end performance laptop
Well, 15.4" is going to be a lot more portable than a 17". The end decision is ultimately up to you.
For 15.4" - the Acer TravelMate 8200 is a powerful machine, with a 256MB ATI Radeon X1600 and Intel Core Duo processor. I'd go with that if you plan on moving your system more often than not.
Other than that, the Sager NP-5720 is your ticket to high gaming performance. It has an excellent display, an all around superior machine to the Dell XPS:

http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/...HO&coid=-30600 You can get a lot more for a lot less. nVidia 7300? That's far from top of the line, especially if he plans on playing games on it.

Re: High end performance laptop
The travelmate would have been perfect if it wasn't a matte screen:(
A lot of people rave on the Toshiba's.. is it for the screen quality? I see them as just being +2lbs heavier in every class and usually with a lower quality video card...
but I guess Sony's are in that boat as well. Which gives you something to think about.. higher quality screen on a lower res vs a lower quality screen with higher res.. opinions anyone?
Answer:
Re: High end performance laptop
I wouldn't go for the Toshiba . . the Go7300 is a very underpowered and weak card.
Yeah, it has an excellent screen, but I don't believe that makes up for its other downfalls. Great machine, but not suited to what you want it to do.
Sony - same thing. The FE (15.4") has a Go7400, which is weak and underpowered as well.
If you can, I would wait for the MSI-1039, which is coming out soon with a dual-core Turion processor and a 256MB ATI X1600.

Re: High end performance laptop

Sager 5720 is a great choice. you won't go wrong with it. Check it out at www.pctorque.com. If you can stand a little more weight an even better choice would be the Sager 9750. There is a recent review in the review section of the forum that you might want to check out.
