Question:
3 hot laptops, hard decision
Which one would you select and why? The problem is that nobody have seen LG yet so it is unknown how it's screen compares with Sony's?!
On the other hand 80GB is really small compared to other two. Asus has aluminum built so it is durable but then it is only 1.66GHz. And also Go7400 is subpar....hard decision:

Re: 3 hot laptops, hard decision
Welcome,
If you want to play some games get the Asus. They have pretty good build quality as well. By the way next time read the sticky on top of the page. It shows you what format to use to ask these questions. This post was hard to read, but don't worry your just learning ;)

I would wait and get this one for U$ 1600 aproximately. (In canada it will be a litle bit more for tax)
It will be released in april so, if you can wait....

msi very difficult to find in Canada... Maybe on the west coast you can get your hands on it, but probably not in Ontario

Re: 3 hot laptops, hard decision
Thanks for your answers. This MSI, I've never heard about it before (which can be expected from a newbie :), but the way you presented it I would pay top dollar for it if I could buy it in Ontario.
The reason I am sticking with Core Duo is the way I plan to use laptop. I would like to be able to open a couple of IE windows, a couple of Word documents, Adobe reader, Visio, TextPad with zillion open text files, Oracle database, IDE tool, application server. Then when I make a pause during work I would like kids to be able to play some games without interfering with open applications. After a while, when they loose interest, maybe my wife will take laptop to the kitchen and watch a movie while there, and then when I come back I can start working where I left. And I like bright screens and everybody says Sony FE is marvelous in that regard. But I also like durability and many folks said Asus is very durable and solid built. Many people also said Toshibas are not what they used to be and even VAIO is not very solid. Recenly in Futureshop I saw a LG model (forgot which one) with very nice screen, vivid colors, but it had 100GB/4200rpm so I did not look further. But it looked solid and durable...
It seems to me that presently no vendor resolved the technical problem of having these 3 things implemented in Core Duo machine:
-2GHz processor clock
-100GB HD 5400rpm
-ATI X1600 and better
Dell started Inspirion 9400 with GoForce 7800, 100GB/7200(!) and (for short period) 2.0GHz. But very quickly they scaled down to 1.83GHz first and then they offered ATI x1600 for a week or so but now it is only x1400 option. And the only option with disk is now 5400rpm. I don't know if it is because sales of M170 started to slow down because of Inspirion or it is due to the problem with heating. What I know is that no vendor offers those 3 features in Core Duo laptop, except LG P1/S1 (80GB/5400rpm). And Acer 82xx, but the guy who sells Acers and Asus told me not to buy Acer. He told me he sold 20 of those Acers and around half were returned because of different problems. I loved so much that Acer 82xx package, but...
It seems that Asus and Sony play safe. Their video card Go 7400 probably use a lot less energy compared to x1600 and similar. So at this point I am not sure if LG P1 will soon have technical problems like Acer. As somebody said they are new to laptop market. But then again they offer 3yr warranty included in price. Or maybe they resolved the problem by putting 80GB instead of 100GB HD...it is very difficult to buy Core Duo laptop these days...

You can buy it in canada at this website:
www.rawpowerpc.com
I just think it would be a litle bit more expensive due to tax.
