I set up a HP Pavillion dv5000z notebook and was wondering if this is a good setup. If there are any similarly priced laptops that are better or ones that are equal at a lower price, any info would be appreciated

Well, if you want something more capable of gaming within that range, there's the Quanta KN1-PM, Dell E1505, or Acer 5672.

Mainstream or thin and light, whatever is cheaper

Accessories HP Mobile Remote Control The Turion should serve you well but your battery life will not be as good as a Pentium M/duo type machine.I think it is a solid machine and battery life should be decent with the 12 cell battery but a 15.4" will be quite heavy.
Why bundle the router with your system? They go on sale all of the time www.salescircular.com .
Also consider the HP DV1000t and Compaq V2000t which is more 'mobile' and lighter.

I'd get the Inspiron E1405, better bang for your buc with coupons than the DV1000T and V2000T

The Semprons are very low power if you want it to run cool. The dv5000 is a good budget notebook.
