Question:
advice on gaming notebook please
Preface:
I had a Dell E1705 which was absolutely beautiful with amazing performance. But it was too big, so I returned it.
I would pick up the E1505 if not for my aversion to ATI cards. I have no wish to debate the merits of ATI versus Nvidia -- I just prefer Nvidia if possible.
Basically I want this:
Centrino Duo
15" or so widescreen
7200 rpm HD
Nvidia Go 6600 or better
2 Gig ram
Wireless b/g + bluetooth
General Questions
1) What is your budget?
~$2000 US
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Internet, gaming, programming, watching movies, word processing/spreadsheets.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
It will travel with me every day.

WoW, HL2, some other RTS games. 'Top' performance is not critical. An intel GMA will not cut it. Hope that makes sense.

No preference, as long as its sturdy from a reputable manufacturer.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?

8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
Not at all.
9) What country are you buying this in?
USA

**not finicky here as long as it's widescreen and around 14 - 15.4 inch.
11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
no preference...glossy nice to have.
Build Quality and Design
12) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
As long as it's not painted day-glo, etc, don't care.
13) How long do you want this laptop to last?
3-5 years

Thanks a bunch all.

Re: advice on gaming notebook please
your best bet would be the asus a8jm with the 7600go. however, you will not be able to configure your hd. it comes preconfigured with a 5400 rpm hard drive and 1 gig ram. you can always upgrade aftermarket.

Re: advice on gaming notebook please
The ASUS A8Jm would be good, 14" Core Duo with a nVIDIA GO 7600.
There's also the HP DV5000T, which is about the same in everything as the E1505 but with a GO 7400 in it and a different look of course.

Thank you, I had looked as some of the Asus specs and they seem very good.
As I understand it, Asus does not sell direct. Do they have a preferred vendor in the US? Do any of them allow customization?
