Because you were all so helpful when I was shopping for my baby...errr...gaming laptop...I'm back looking for one for my husband.
1) What is your budget?
flexible...between 1000 and 2000 CDN
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
a or b would be ideal...he may be stuck with c though
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
some gaming (Guildwars, etc. would like it to run oblivion, but doesn't have to be at top settings), coding (java, C)
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?

Other than that, the only things he's specified are a gig of ram, and he does NOT want graphics with shared ram.

check out the asus a8jm. for something even smaller, look out for the xps 1210, though it will probably run oblivion pretty badly....

Possibly one of these? 15.4", Turion CPU, ATI X1600 GPU.
I doubt you'll find a proper gaming GPU in anything less than a 15.4" model. The heatsinks required are just too big.
There will hopefully be new and very interesting notebooks coming out in June with the Turion X2 launch. Gaming-oriented versions may break your budget though.

there are no good resellers of msi notebooks in canada. if you want to order msi, you will have to import it from the states and pay all the lovely fees that come with that. the a8jm has the 7600go, btw which performs similarly to the x1600.
