Question:
Averatec av1050-eb1 or av1020-eu1
hey all,
so it comes down to price v performance for these two:
AVERATEC AV1020-ED1 Intel Celeron M 1GHz 10.6" Wide XGA 512MB 60GB DVD/CD-RW Combo Intel Extreme Graphics 2 NoteBook - Retail ---- 809 on newegg w rebate
or
AVERATEC AV1050-EB1 NoteBook Intel Pentium M 1.1GHz 10.6" Wide XGA 512MB 80GB DVD/CD-RW Combo Intel Extreme Graphics 2 - Retail ----- 1049 on newegg w rebate
Ive been reading trying to figure out if the 240$ price gap is worth the dif in the processor.. the 20gb increase in hdd makes absolutely no difference..
I'll be using it for taking notes with onenote all day, using trillian, firefox, excel, powerpoint and outlook.. Mostly simultaneously... right now i have a compaq v2405 14" and its too big (and battery life <2 hrs) to take around all day for classes... It has a sempron 3000 cpu and 256mb ram and its just a little too slow for my liking..
so the question is should i get the 1ghz celeron m for 240 less? and will have a noticeable dif. in multitaking performance? also, how while either of these compare to the v2405 im using now?
thanks in advance...

Averatec's aren't very well made nor are they reliable. Look into a dell e1505 or an asus both available for about the same amount as these but far better machines. The pentium m processors are outdated, you'll want dual core which asus and dell offer. These averatecs are a rip off.

i have a feeling that if you think the sempron is slow, then both of these models will also be very slow. celerons run hotter and use up more battery life. if you don't mind 12", you should highly consider the deal that geared2play.com has in the for sale forum for the asus notebook. that is a great deal for a great notebook.

thanks for the responses... i'm really looking for a nonexpensive subcompact (10in) ... i have a decent desktop so this is just for taking notes and such... like ejl said, i also have a feeling they both will be a bit slow...

trust me, 10 inches is really small. i think 12 inches would be a good compromise....here was what i was talking about. it will be much powerful than either one you've posted.
