I'm going to shoot myself in the face.

Question:
I'm going to shoot myself in the face.
I was at work today just thinking about the laptop I'm going to purchase soon. I seriously don't know what I want. I can't decide between the e1705 and the s96j. I don't think portability is a big issue. The prices are close. I think I would add ram to the Dell after because their ram mark up is ridiculous. I'm just weighing in the speakers, the real estate of the screen (from pictures it looks better to me than the s96j), the 7800go and how it will last me for a longggg time for games. I kind of like the way it looks now, and after reading the review on it, it seems fairly sturdy. Con's = ram mark up, customer service (although my sister is friends with a dell rep), warranty prices, shady part quality (from other users).
The S96J offers two screens, g2p and powernotebooks offer two while rjtech and gentech only offer one. I get the ram for cheap on gentech, however I am concerned about what brand it is. On powernotebooks, I cannot configure it for a 7200 RPM drive. I also do not want a matte screen from g2p and their extra warranties/guarantees are priced a little high. Rjtech and gentech have 100$ sales tax for me as well. However, I have many choices in the configuration and from what symetrical is saying, the 1280x800 is fine (I use a 1280x9xx on my 17' CRT right now). The x1600 seems like a nice card too (definetley an upper end). You get better customer support from all of these sites as well. I have emailed reps from powernotebooks, gentech and rjtech and they have all responded in less than a few hours. The build quality seems top notch as well. Also, would buying some logitech speakers or whatever brand make my laptop sound nice or is that limited by the integrated sound card? Would it be worth it to get the upgraded WSXGA+ (1680x1050) Widescreen "Color Shine" LCD, in getting it though I must sacrafice the 7200 RPM drive. I do not want to upgrade it later because after this purchase I will be absolutely broke lol and powernotebooks does not offer the option of not getting a HD.
Any comments that anyone has to make? Advice? PLEASE lol...

Re: I'm going to shoot myself in the face.
as ive said many times in this forum recently the powernotebooks wxga version is a slam dunk.
your other concerns about the 7200 rpm thing
well call them up and see what you can do.
one thing is that owner will actually have time to respond.
Michael Dell might be a little harder for you to contact about lowering his ram prices.
speakers I dont know. any reason you cant use earphones? if it is your home set up then you could put external speakers there. I dont know what weight to consider that I dont think it matters at all.

Re: I'm going to shoot myself in the face.
This should be an easy decision, if you prefer WXGA.
1. The ASUS is better quality than a Dell Inspiron.
2. The customer service from Asus dealers is way better than Dell India.
3. The specs, looks and screen are better in the ASUS.
4. You get what you pay for.

The asus will come better built and with better service as these guys have stated. Its pretty light also at under 7lbs and the GPU is a good one. I'd go with the asus myself

the dell has the most bang for the buck. i would go with asus for portability and the dell for power. since portability is not an issue for you, just get the dell. let's just hope you don't have to bother with messing with customer service.
