Question:
Gaming Laptop
This has probably been asked hundreds of times before so I apologise in advance...
I currently own an Acer Aspire 1690WLMi and as it has an integrated graphics card, it is virtually useless for games... I've only had it for about 8 months and I'm going to sell it as I've had enough of it... I'm looking for a gaming laptop that isn't too expensive, but will be able to handle high performance games such as Microsoft Flight and Train Simulator, and first person shooter games such as Halo.
I have filled out the FAQ anyway just to help you people out a bit more...
1) What is your budget?
Maximum would be around £800 ($1500), but anything a bit cheaper would be great! :)
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen.
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
I would mainly use the laptop for gaming, but a wireless connection would be great as I tend to use the internet quite a bit too.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Um, I would most likely leave it at my desk.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Yes, high performace games such as Microsoft Train and Flight Simulator.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
No, I'm not fussed about brands really.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Um, battery life is not really a problem as it will mainly be plugged into the mains at my desk.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
No, as long as the website has the true specs of the laptop, not like the Comet website which said my current laptop had an ATI X600 when in fact it doesn't!
9) What country are you buying this in?
United Kingdom.
10) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Don't really no much about this, sorry!
11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Again, don't no much about this!
12) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
No.
13) How long do you want this laptop to last?
For as long as possible.
14) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
60GB to 80BG would be enough I guess.
15) Do you need a DVD, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-R drive?
Yes.
So, any recommendations will be greatly appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Kind regards,
-Alex.
P.S. If you know of any good websites in the USA/CANADA that can ship to the UK, that would be cool! Might be a bit cheaper as well! Thanks!

Re: Gaming Laptop
The Asus S96J would be a great fit for your needs, I concur. I'd also look into the Acer 5670 series with the Nvidia GeForce Go7600 GPU, which is as powerful as the Radeon X1600 in the Asus.

Re: Gaming Laptop
Take a look at the Fujitsu Siemens M1437G. Great 15.4" screen, good specs and very good videocard. I can handle every game, even Oblivion is playable at 1280*800 (with an overclock).

Re: Gaming Laptop
The Asus S96J and the Acer 5670 look to be my best bet... Only problem is, it doesn't look like I can get the S96J anywhere here in the UK...
Anyone know of any good websites that might be able to ship it here, or any websites in the UK even?
Again, thanks for your help!
Kind regards,
-Alex.
Also, with regards to the Acer 5670, the only one I could find was with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 512 MB of HyperMemory, would this be any good? Here's the link anyway: http://www.shopacer.co.uk/sess/utn;j...3D252EVOD%3D29

Re: Gaming Laptop
Me again, sorry!
I've been looking at this laptop: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_.../version-1.asp Seeing as I want this laptop to last me for a very long time, would this be ok, and would the graphics card on this laptop be ok for playing the games I specified above?
Also, I've been looking at some of the Asus laptops... Could anyone recommend a decent Asus gaming laptop in my price range?
Thanks again!
Kind regards,
-Alex.
