Built quality for a good price...Apple/Toshiba/Asus/Samsung/Sony

Question:
Built quality for a good price...Apple/Toshiba/Asus/Samsung/Sony
This is perhaps a broader audience in which i can get a honest opinion from experienced users.
I'm still browsing for my first laptop and its really tough considering the many options out there. I really want a good quality built machine for a reasonable price. My enginerring and comp mate at uni told me to stay away from Dell, Acer, and Compaq and HP coz their own bad experiences with then and their mates as well.
So im left with Apple, Toshiba, IBM, Asus, Samsung and Sony, fujistu and LG
The unfortunate thing is Samsung and LG are very expensive but they r the only company that r still manufacturing their laptops in Korea. The price you pay for their stuff is silly but they r such well built machines.
Fujitsu is expensive i guess considering they r made in Japan but the price you pay some of their specs is it a bit well overwhelming
The new apple mac pro is really nice and specs look good. Not sure considering Asus assembles their laptops.
With Toshiba 2 b honest they aernt exactly the most beautiful laptops in the world. They r kinda conservative and even kinda ugly... Sorry toshiba fans but their design isnt that fantastic. I'm puzzled the price you pay for a perdominantly hard plastic laptop. Now their stuff is made in China ive heard their quality has dimished over the last few years which is dissapointing for company was originally built upon quality with a passion.
Asus assemble their laptops in Taiwan and its still puzlling why they stuff is considerably cheaper. They r popular in the Australian market but it seems very popular in US.
Sony well i guess im not sure again they r assembled by Asus apparently.
Im just wondering which outta all of these company shuld they recognised for quality built for a reasonable price.
cheers :)

Same with ScubaDoc :)
ScubaDoc
..." I was doing the same research a while back...and after a few weeks of intense researching (mostly forums cause u get honest experiences from ppl who OWNED the laptops) and i must say the asus seem to be the best out there (on a quality/price basis) every other brand has a pattern of problems (either bad screens or overheating....etc) which i havent noticed in asus (other than weak speakers in the built on models).
Asus builds barebones for most of the brands u mentioned:

Also quality-wise they r unbeatable for the prices they offer....the only notebooks that even compare r at least $1000-1500 more than asus.
My personal choice would be the s96j cause of the fact that it's fully customisable...here's an example:
Intel VBI Asus S96J Core Duo Barebone 15.4 Inch WXGA/ATI X1600 256MB/Built-in Webcam/Combo
CPU: Intel® Yonah Core-Duo T2400 1.83GHz 2M 667 FSB
RAM: Kingston 2GB DDR-2 667 SODIMM (2X1024)
HD: Seagate Momentus 100GB 7200rpm S-ATA
Internal Wireless Card: Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945 Tri-mode 802.11a/b/g
Display: 15.4" WXGA 1280 x 800 Color Shine (Glare)
VGA: ATI Mobility X1600 256MB PCI Express
Optical Drive: 8 x DVD-RW Dual Layer Super Multi
Camera: Built-in Camera
Total: $1,518.00
Take into consideration that these r all top of the line specs (except for the CPU) and that there r lower specs to choose from (for each component) which will take the price down!!
Try looking around for the same specs with other brands and ull see the price difference....the fact that it's upgradable is another pro that u wont get on ensemble units (even asus)....the resellers r great..very friendly...very helpful and VERY fast.
The only "drawback" (if u want to call it that) r the looks.....personally i dont think they r bad....not the best out there but not UGLY....just a regular laptop....take a look at some pics and decide for ureself...some pll like it some dont...it's all about prefrence....but i think for the specs, price and quality it doesnt get better!
IF the barebones bother u (looks or just the fact that it's built by someone other than asus themselves) take a look at the w3j....very high specs...almost as good as the s96j specs i mentioned above...AND u get looks...it's a beutiful notebook.
Anyways that was my 2 cents...hope it helps....i know it's all about asus but like i said after the research ive done (i think) it's one of the best brands out there.
Good luck!!"
