im bout to go to university and i needed a notebook, mostly for work, watching movies, and some gaming.
was wondering wut ppl thought of the HP Pavilion dv8233cl:

If you plan on carting this around, I would suggest something other than a 17" notebook.

i think my only hesitation about this notebook is that its gpu is a bit lacking. for the games you mentioned, it will play them fine probably on mid-settings, but you will struggle with newer games and games of the future. if possible, i would have gone with something with a x1600/7600go. unfortunately, i don't think there are any 17" ones that are in that price range....15.4" there would be the updated acer 5672 with the x1600 on preorder now at ncix.com or the asus s96j when it makes it to canada. if you could stand 14" there is always the asus a8jm...
