I'm really lost and could use some help??

Question:
I'm really lost and could use some help??
Okay let me start off by saying that, I am not looking to purchase a laptop ASAP. Also if you feel that it would be better off waiting for new technologies to come out prior to purchasing a new laptop feel free to share a reason why. I'll start off with the General Questions.
1) What is your budget?
As of right now 2000-2500, but if you suggest waiting I have the summer to earn some more cash
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
No preferance, I don't mind the weight
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
I will be using AutoCAD 2006, would like it to play DVDs, burn CDs, I'm looking into getting into some light gaming, alot of web browsing, word documents, presentations, and maybe some light photo editing nothing to high tech
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Probably on a desk 70% of the time
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
I'm looking to start playing some racing games mainly and possibly any kind of adventure game, nothing hard core
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I'm a fan of HP but I really don't care what brand you are looking at
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
What ever it will be plugged in most of the time
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
No preference
9) What country are you buying this in?
United States of America
Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
Widescreen
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Standard
a. XGA -1024x768 - Large and easy to read text + graphics icons, but you fit less stuff on the screen.
b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA.
c. UXGA - 1600x1200 - Very small text and graphics icons, you can fit lots of stuff on the screen.
Widescreen
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
I don't really know, what ever you think would work best I guess
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
No preference
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Partly, but I'd much prefer a better performer than something that just looks good
14) How long do you want this laptop to last?
3-5 years
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
What ever you suggest
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
DVD-CD/RW
Also I would prefer that the laptop have a full keyboard due to the ease of use with CAD something that could possibly be ugradable due to the length of time I would like the laptop to be with me and I prefer Windows OS...
Thanks in advance for all your help and I really appreciate it, because I'm not exactly the brightest computer person.

My choices:
A Dell Precision M90, only problem with that is that it doesnt have a number pad, which you need. Its a 17 inch laptop, has a lot of options and can customize it to what you need.
A HP DV8000T might be something to think about as well, this one has a full keyboard

A full keyboard would be nice for CAD; take a look at HP's nw9440:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...1-1839859.html
The nw9440 is a 17" mobile workstation; HP business notebooks have superb quality and durability. You can get high-resolution screens on that and the video card is good for business-type apps and rendering, if you need to do that.
If you plan to game more, then the nx9420 is the same notebook, just with a consumer video card:

They both have the same video card in all actuality, but the difference is that the V5200 is optimized for business-class apps, where the X1600 is for consumer-type use.

well
i think you do want a 17 inch notebook.
I think you should start with the dell e1705, using a dell coupon link on this page for 750 off 2000, to make it 1250 shipped.
then work your way to a sager 5670, those hps, toshiba p105 what have you and see what the added dollars get you.
I mean, if you can get what you want for 1250 why do you want to spend 2k is your key point to decide.
if you do want to spend 2k i think you can make a sager 5670 for 2200 thats very nice quality and performance.
for 2400 you can get an asus w2j with a carbon fiber body and magnesium alloy lid thats very light. thats like your mercedes option.
