Directx 9 cards in the future
How long do you expect directx 9 to be supported by games once vista comes out? because if games wont support directx 9 for very long, then people buying a notebook now who plan on keeping their notebooks for 3(+) years should wait until the directx 10 cards that come out at the end of the year.

I would imagine there will be quite an overlap. Game distributors aren't going to shut out the vast majority of their market by making something DirectX 10 only. Now having said that, games will probably look and run much better under DirectX 10, but they will keep DX9 compatability around for at least 1-2 years AFTER Vista launches maybe longer.

The transition to DX10 isn't going to happen overnight; in order to use DirectX 10, you must have a DirectX 10 video card. Nobody can even use DX10 until Vista comes out, as it is a Vista exclusive.
DirectX 9 is going to be supported by games for a while; I think DX10 will be more of a novelty in the beginning until we start seeing a good amount of cards come out and they gain a foothold in the market. Once that happens, then we'll start to see some games come out for DX10. It isn't profitable to produce a game for which the market is very narrow.

dx 10 is going to be the graphics card in the xbox2, the features.
like dx 8 was the graphics card in the xbox.
games using dx 10 already exist is what i want to put in. it will be the graphics card that is compatible the longest, just like the ati 9000 is still running oblivian 4 years later.
