thanks for your help guys, ill appreciate it. ive been doing a bit of research, and ive found a few, mainly from toshiba and acer: some fantastic acer's ive found are the aspire 5024wlmi, seems pretty good, low on memory, but excellent x700 card. various FERARRI models which are good too, but the turion64 is a 1.6. i think i want a 1.8?
hey, any good places to shop would be a huuuge help too, thanks again guys.

Re: got to be soon!
you should look at the acer with the 7600go...i want to say that it is the acer 5652. also, the acer 5672 will be upgraded with the x1600. that is worth a look. i also like the asus a6ja. i am unsure what the prices are for these machines.

Re: got to be soon!
heyy, thanks, thatw as quick, brilliant, but from what ive read, the radeon x1400 is good, but a little weak for future stuff. aaaas for the 5652, awsome, (although i dont know much about the 7600go) buuut, its a little steep, i COULD strech that far, but so far, i cant find a good reason to, as for the asus. whoa...amazing, but it passes by the magic £1000. fraid thats a no go zone! not yet at least!

Re: got to be soon!
the acer 5672 is going to be revamped with the x1600. here is a u.s. site that has it. i do not know if it will come to the uk.
http://www.pcconnection.com/ProductDetail?Sku=6809249
perhaps if you can find the asus s96j (don't think it's there, but can't hurt to look). or even the compal hel80.
the 7600go is roughly equivalent to the x1600.

hmm...sounds all good, hang on hang on, just one thing. i KNOW the radeon x700 is a good card. but i dont know much about the x1600, you guys seem to be praising it alot, is it any good?

Re: got to be soon!
My X1600 512 Hyper Memory at regular core speeds does the following:
DOOM 3 at Ultra Settings @ highest resolution (1400?) WITH VSYNC
Quake 4 at Ultra Settings @ highest resolution (1680) with NO VSYNC
Far Cry at Highest settings @ 1680 resolution WITH VSYNC
BF2 at highest settings @ 1200resolution (AA x6)
Half-Life 2 at highest settings @ native resolution with 10:9 aspect ration, VSYNC enabled, max AA and AF.
FEAR at medium settings @ 1024 resolution
Need for Speed Most Wanted at highest settings @ native resolution
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion at highest settings @ 1400 resolution. Dont know if VSYNC or AA and AF are enabled.
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter at highest setting with AA and AF @ 1200 resolution WITHOUT VSYNC
mmmm... pretty much everything except for FEAR (no surprise there) runs at highest settings and works at a good resolution, often at native (1680x1024 @ 60Hz). Only the most demanding games have to be stepped down. Definately a good video card...

Re: got to be soon!
Whats your budget, you have mentioned £800 and £1000?
For something gaming but cheap look at:
Pentium M 1.7GHz
1GB RAM
Radeon x700
price - £776
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ASUS_.../version-1.asp
If you can push it, for £1015:
Core Duo 1.83GHz
1GB RAM
Radeon x1600

I would go with Asus over Acer anyday because they have much better build quality.
Answer:
Re: got to be soon!
I would have to say that Acer has very good build quality. It will not leave you disappointed. Especially for the price that they charge, its a miracle deal. You will definately end up paying too much for what you get compared to the deals given to you by Acer. Asus may be good. But it is too expensive. By the way, the X700 has no 3.0 shader support... i think its either 1.5 or 2.0. It also doesnt have nearly as many pixel pipelines or graphics shader processors as the X1600. The two cards are not even comparable. Its worth the money.

Re: got to be soon!
alright, alright, alright, gotta thank you guys (and i must apologise about the way i write, but im bored of the formal option!!!)
lets get to this:
i must agree with Vlad_I, acer has a very good build quality in general, not JUST for what youre paying, but on an overall scale. buut, it cant beat asus's. period.
id LOVE to own an asus, but thyre a little steep at the moment, the http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ASUS_.../version-1.asp
is suspiciously getting more and more attention form me!
but at thaat price, i can get more then a centrino cant i? i mean.. it IS a 1.7ghz. but it doesnt stand up to a core duo.
ive done a bit more research and the x700 is pretty good, but ive found the x1600 on some surprisingly good models. and yes the x700 has something like 8pipelines and is shader 2.0 i think?
so now i KNOW the x1600 is pretty much amazing. so that gets my favour.
hmm, so far ACER are getting the higher vews from me because of the price...i know its not fair on other manufacturers, but i know acer's pretty well....and..i have no complaints.
alright, tell you what, i cant strech my budget just a liiitle more. im sorry guys, but not too much...nearly £1000 will kill me, cos i need to save a little bit for first year at uni. hmm....aieeee! ok,£850 to £900 MAX! nope, nope...cant go more then that....hmm...actually, on second thought...the ASUS at 776 is pretty damn good!!!!!!
if ic an upgrade it a bit..but AHHH..its only got a centrino...will that suffer alot under heavy multitasking...im talking saaaay, 3Dmax, online, music, downloading, and maaaaaybe ripping music or copying?
a combo like that..i know a core duo would be good. can ask you gys another question, how is the turion64 faring these days?:
