perhaps the dell e1405 or e1505, using dell coupon codes. you could also take a look at the compaq v2000z, but you will have to upgrade the battery to get over three hours.

Re: Cheap laptop for student
I'm in a similar situation here. I can spend only $850. People have recommended the e1505 for gaming, with coupons, an Inspiron e1505 with the base core duo 512MB DDR2 (buy another 512MB/1GB stick from Newegg later), WXGA monitor (add $30 more for Truelife), 60GB HDD, Intel 3945 wifi, and an ATI X1400 with the standard 6-cell battery can be had for $750. The larger 9-cell battery required for 3+hours battery is $99 more.
The only thing i'm concerned about is whether the Dell is sturdy enough, but If that doesn't bother you, the e1505 is difficult to beat at it's price.

avi550m: I feel for you man... You can try craigslist if you wan't, but you might get scammed, plus, you're buying a used laptop so...

Since I don't want to make a new thread, I just wanted to know what is good about the dual core. Because I am thinking of buying the Dell E1505 and I don't know wether to get the single core, or the dual core.
