Dell v. HP

Question:
Dell v. HP
Greetings.
Thank you all for your previous help. I think I'm getting closer to making a decision; however, another question has come about. I've been looking at the Dell e1705 and the Dell M90 (if i can convince myself to invest that much money). My first question is which one of these should I go with if I'm going to be entering college next year with an engineering major, meaning that I have to use programs such as Solidworks, etc. My second question is whether or not I should be looking at Dell or HP. Does HP produce a similar model for a better price, or something more advanced for a little more cash? Thank you all for your help.

Re: Dell v. HP
well, the dell e1705 would be the best bang for your buck, especially with the dell coupon codes. it has the better video card than anything hp offers. however, its build quality is questionable. i would consider something like the hp nx9420 to have good graphics performance (not as good as with the e1705 or m90) with excellent build quality. but if durability is not something important to you, the dell will have more power for the money than anything hp offers.

Ok, cool. Thank you. I just have a couple questions. Where would I find the Dell cupon codes, and how 'durable' is the Dell build quality in your eyes? Good enough to last college?

Re: Dell v. HP

it's hard to say about the build quality, so i will defer that to someone else.

Re: Dell v. HP
i personally haven't tried the e1705 but from everything i've read, the build quality is supposed to be decent and supposedly feels like a very solid notebook, for me it seems a bit too solid and large to carry around but that is an entirely different story... whether it lasts through college partially depends on how well you treat it and maintain it, banging it around and getting crap on the screen or keyboard without cleaning it will greatly change things with even the best built machine...my 2 cents

Re: Dell v. HP
Dell E1705 and M90 are totally different machines.
E1705 is a cheap powerful machine with a decent build quality, while M90 is a premium business machine with more power(for business purpose) and way better build quality.
Precision M90 is probably the most powerful business notebok available right now.

Re: Dell v. HP
no actually they are the same machine and have a similar build quality
parts different on the m90 are not really significant but a few exist.
i am certain dell makes their technicians look at the m90 before they send it off.
m90 comes with the quadro version of the graphics cards
same motherboard same other components, same odm which is compal.

Re: Dell v. HP
the chassis is different and it is more durable. has all the business line fixings (magnesium alloy chassis, anti-shock, spill proof, etc.)....so they don't really have the same build quality.

I would choose the M90 over the Latitude e1705 for build and service through the Small Business division.
Are you sure you want to carry a gargantuan around? 15.4" would be more manageable the M65 is slightly lighter and will have better battery life.

Re: Dell v. HP
the chassis is different and it is more durable. has all the business line fixings (magnesium alloy chassis, anti-shock, spill proof, etc.)....so they don't really have the same build quality. i havent seen the m90 close up
ive seen the e1706 many times
it has a metal lcd lid and metal around part of the keyboard
it has the same amount of metal as the m90
now the m90 might have better metal, it is described as magnesium and the e1705 uses like tin or something. it might not too lol it might be the same thing only they dont call the e1705 magnesium for marketing purposes. Dell didnt get to be the worlds largest computer seller by giving anything away
the major parts of the body of the e1705 are plastic, very thin. silver coated.
the main body of the m90 is plastic. it might be a different plastic. its a different color.
it might just be painted a different color.
what im saying is, its the same chassis exactly. whether they somehow use different materials.... well Im dubvious of that but its possible.
I think they actually use the same thing. the e1705 is described as road ready and the m90 has some other trademark, and i think they are the same thing.
you two are relating some marketing jargon from dell.com not your best choice. do you have some information on any sort of treatment or added equipment they do to the e1705 chassis to make it more spill proof etc?
