Back again for another "what should i buy post"
hey all
i have a few questions about a workstation that could fit my needs. I need to do software engineering, it must be able to run unix, solaris, windows. I also would like to use many different compliers such a visual studio and xemacs. must be able to handle i programing language such as c++, java etc.. finally must be able to do game programing(as a hobby) runing openGL at 2D and 3D graphics. Anyone who is knowledgeable and wise in this area please help.:) thanks

$1200 to 1500(2000 tops but i really dont want to spend that amout of money)

right now on the us market this is the most powerful gpu available in a non 17 inch laptop.
it happens to be in a 14 inch laptop.
delete bluetooth it comes to 1550.

Lenovo T60 seems basically perfect

the Lenovo T60 is a little to pricey at the congfig i need, i like the dell but am not sold on it asus is also a little pricey for the features. I really am thankfull for the input any other suggestions.

If the T60 is too much, the Dell D620 or D820 might work.

What about the dell E1705 i customized it with the nvidia 7900gs at about $1500, do you think it will suite my needs?

I think most people didn't consider the E1705 because you said you wanted mainstream and smaller laptops. The 1705 is 17" which is not a size I would feel comfortable carrying back and forth to class with me. Also, the Dells and Lenovos pointed out are business-class laptops which are slightly better built and might be able to withstand a bit more.

Yeah, i agree Nrbelex i guess i got a little exicited thinking about all that gaming that i could do but, i think i will go with one of the above choices. I really apperciate all your advice thanks alot ;).
