Question:
GPU for 12.1" screen?
Hi all,
I'm looking at buying a laptop that I can easily carry around with me, *and* play the occasional 3D game on (WoW, Guild Wars, DS2, oblivion.. uh.. maybe ;). I'm used to my work-assigned X30 (soon to be returned, *snif*) and love the form factor.
So.. has anyone ever seen a 12" laptop with anything more than a Radeon XPress 200M under the hood, or am I asking for the moon? Price is not really an issue, we're selling our house and I will have some spare cash -- aka Toy Money -- floating around.

Pretty much the Dell m1210 is the only new model with a dedicated GPU at that size. There are also future notables, such as the ASUS W7, 13.3" with 7400

There's also the 13.3" Sony SZ that has the go7400, bigger footprint than the 12" M1210 but it's thinner and actually a bit lighter.

Either of the above systems will work-I'd recommend the dell with a warranty

just a head's up, the 7400 is going to struggle a lot with oblivion, if you choose to play it. the 7400go performs similarly to the x1400. check out the threads about those who can't seem to play oblivion well with the x1400.

Oblivion is simply a horribly-coded port from the xbox 360, I would not base performance on it. It seems you do need a very powerful GPU to even run Oblivon decently, so ejl is right on that account. The Go7400 is a capable card otherwise, with balanced midrange performance.
I think the Dell XPS M1210 is a great system:
Keyboard could be improved though.
