Gamer Laptop

Question:
Gamer Laptop
1) What is your budget?
$1200-$1600
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
I am torn between a mainstream and desktop replacement size. I will be taking this laptop to school everyday, and moving it around every few hours, so weight might be annoying after a while. At the same time, my desktop hardware is begging to show its age and I really desire a notebook that can play games fairly decently. I was looking at the E1705 and was sold on it, but then I wondered if its weight might be too much.
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Word Processing, Browsing the Web, Gaming
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Taking it around campus most days.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Yes. World of Warcraft, Oblivion, Half Life 2.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I dislike gateway with a passion :)
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
2-3. Won't be taking it on long flights. I will have an outlet most everywhere I use it.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
No.
9) What country are you buying this in?
United States of America
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
Widescreen is prefferred.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
Anything above 1680x1050 should be enough space for what I am doing.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Glossy is preffered.
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Yes, but I won't turn down a good deal if the looks are sub-par.
14) How long do you want this laptop to last?
3 years.
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
80GB is a good amount of storage for me.
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
Yes, I need an optical drive. CD-RW/DVD should be fine. I have no need or desire to write DVDs, but reading them is important.

I am leaning towards the E1705 at the moment, but it really comes down to how well the graphics cards on the 15 inchers can perform. A 7900GS would be really nice, but if I can scrape by with an X1600 then so be it. Also, nVidia is prefferred for linux compatibility.

Re: Gamer Laptop
Since you're going to be moving it around more often than not, I'd recommend sticking to a 15.4". A 17" notebook is quite large and can be bulky to transport on a daily basis, not to mention annoying.
The Asus S96J is a 15.4" notebook with a Core Duo and ATI X1600 graphics card; great for gaming. It has better build quality than you'll find in a mainstream notebook:
