64-bit?

Question:
64-bit?
Simple question: What kind of a performance boost will I get from 64-bit over 32-bit?
Answer:
Re: 64-bit?
Right now - probably none. There isn't a whole lot of support for x64 Operating Systems, and 64-bit software is scarse.
It depends on the applications you are going to be running. If you are just a basic user, then it shouldn't matter, but if you render, do mathematical programs, etc., then once software is avaliable, you will see a difference.
In a year's time, that is when I would buy a notebook with a 64-bit processor. But right now, I would not factor it into your buying decision.
As for how much performance you'll see . . . that I cannot say, because I haven't seen any benchmarks, etc. As I said previously, software is scarse . .

2 of my budz run 64 bit desktops... cant tell a difference... I also have a 64 bit desktop, but the only way you will see a difference is if your using a 64 bit os, like Windows x64 or a Server OS, or Windows Vista Beta (?). The software also has to support 64 bit to run at 64 bit. Right now I know Photoshop you can update it to run with 64 bit, and also some games like HL2, CSS, DODS. Once Vista comes out, and most or all vendors are writing 64 bit applications, thats when you will notice a difference. Right now (for me anyways) 64 bit is pointless....

Re: 64-bit?
As many people said above, your average computer user will not gain a thing from a 64bit at this time. I would say the average consumer would need a CPU for 64 bit support would be in about another 4 to 7 years and by this time, you will see a lot more 64 bit games and apps on the market.
