Question:
High performance notebook max $3300AUD
Hi everybody!
I’ve been looking extensively the last week to find myself the perfect notebook, but I still can’t make up my mind regretfully.
The laptop I’m looking for will be used mainly for editing pictures in photoshop, design of graphics in illustrator…
I personally think that the DUO CORE will provide me with the required speed (if other solutions available, pls let me know :)
Processor: T2300 – T2500
Storage: min 60GB – Size doesn’t really matter (got 200GB external HD) – but speed does – preferable SATA7200 rpm
Memory: Min 1 GB – pref 2GB
Screen: 17” – medium high – high quality
Optical device: DVDRW – dual layer
Decent video graphics card.
For the moment the following laptops came up;
Asus AJ7 (doubting with that bloody CTRL button)
Dell inspiron 9400 – regretfully the XPS is out of budget(looks great)
HP DV8299xx
Samsung M50 ?
The most important thing for me, is performance and screen appearance (at least 1440 x 900)
Can somebody help me making a decision, appreciate all the help!
Thanks in advance, peter

Re: High performance notebook max $3300AUD
and what do those machines cost over there?
i mean if i can see what youre comparing i can at lease see which is the better deal between them.
what does benq and lg have in your price range over there as well.
i mean let me describe my possible help i can be to you in full.
I cant look up the prices or websites of australian laptop sellers or figure out whats on the market there.
I cant tell you whats over there
but if you find out all of that info and cut and paste the price and configuration of some i could compare it to the us market and tel you which is a better deal

Re: High performance notebook max $3300AUD
owh ok - dont worry about the price range too much.
Its pretty much the same i between all laptops i noticed.
For example a Asus A7j will cost around 3300 which answers to all criteria
Same for the Dell 9400, LG 17"-Core Duo, Samsung M50 is also in the price range...
i reckon if you know a laptop that is around the value of $2500US that you think answers to the criteria - you helped me a lot!
Cause at the end i dont know really which one to choose that fits best.
Lets say that i found it surprisingly hard to filter out the 17" high performance Laptops..

Re: High performance notebook max $3300AUD
o0h but all the laptops here cost different than over there
so ur reckoning wrong. for instance, that 9400 i could get for 1250 here in the us. where as the a7j is like 1900 i think
there is no lg over here or samsung so ud have to cut and paste all their stats for the forumers. so all of those machines cost exactly the same?
and they come with the same stuff too?
for photo editting maybe check out the toshiba qosmio
if theres a forumer that knows whats available in australia maybe they can help you with that part other than that you may be out of luck unless you can cut and paste the info into the forum for us to use.

Re: High performance notebook max $3300AUD
G'day Peter,
Have you considered the Toshiba Tecra A7? There's a higher specced model for around $2800-3000 AUD with T2400, 100GB HDD (5400rpm though), 17" WSXGA (1680x1050) display and usually a free upgrade to 1GB RAM.
Here's an example, although I recommend using a site like www.staticice.com.au or www.shopferret.com.au to see if you can find a better price in your area.

Hey, the specs on that HP look pretty good. Search around and see if you can find some reviews on this model... I always remember HP as being ridiculously over-engineered (a good thing :)), but their quality may have slipped a little since the merger with Compaq.
If you're thinking of upgrading the RAM, you'll probably save a little money by buying it aftermarket. RAM upgrades are a handy way for retailers to pad their margins on a new notebook.
