Re: 64bit/game/universite-laptop
first of all, you do not need 64-bit to run vista. they will have 32-bit vista as well. also, it seems like you can replace the core duos (best notebook processor available atm) with the core 2 duos that are 64-bit. that being said, if you can find the ms-1039 or something rebadged as such with the x1600 and turion, that would be a good option. if you want to play oblivion well, consider something with x1600/7600go or higher. a good core duo notebook are the zepto znotes, though i don't know if it is available to you. fyi, oblivion and other newer games have been optimized for multithreading so they perform better with dual core processors.

The Turion X2's just came out, 64-bit dualcore and about the same power consumption as the Core Duo. HP got the first batch with their dv2000z/V3000z series, which isn't quite what you want (14" widescreen, shared memory GPU). Acer's Ferrari 5000 is likely what you want (15.4" widescreen, X1600 GPU) but likely breaks your budget (not shipping here yet, Europe tends to get Acer gear sooner than North America). It's starting to look like it'll be July before we see a proper deluge of TX2 notebooks.

this is a shop in my area, so you have a idea of the price of different laptops. look at laptops around 1100€ they are all worse than the acer 5025.
@ ejl: i know therez will be a 32 bit version of vista but i want to be able to use the 64 version . i didnt find anything about the ms-1039 in belgium .
@ brianstretch :i want to buy the laptop around the end of july .and iam afraid of the prices of X2 laptops then .

If you can find an Asus S96j go for that, in the US you can get one for under $1100 USD. Thats what under 1000 Euro? Also dual core will provide better performance than a 64 bit CPU, especially right now. It will be around another year till Vista 64 bit edition is out.

Re: 64bit/game/universite-laptop
the point is, you shouldn't use vista until a year after it comes out so they fix the bugs. by then, you can easily replace the core duo with core 2 duo which is 64-bit. the reason i don't think you should take the acer notebook is that the x1600/7600go will play oblivion and fear much better than the x700. i don't know if you can purchase from the uk, but this notebook would be worth a look if you can:

Re: 64bit/game/universite-laptop
If you are willing to wait one or two months you are going to have a much larger choice of Turion X2 - 64 bits. You mention "school" there should be very many new notebooks out there before school starts again.

Re: 64bit/game/universite-laptop
i have to wait untill the end of next month cause i need to work next month. otherwise ther wont be any money for the laptop .
oke have been looking at the a6ja (100 gig /1gig/ X1600 256mb)
but the prices in the shop go from 1400 till1750€ i can affourd it .but thus asus or acer or any other brand have a dual core with those specs , for less money ofcourse .
not that i dont like the asus .but it is just that i can make my pick among a few .
the thing that worries me is that the a6ja gets quite hot .and mayby a little more battery life ,this one only goes 2 h15 with normal use .
does anyone here has this laptop?
