Help choosing a laptop.

Question:
Help choosing a laptop.
I am able to get half-price laptops through my Dads work every year, and its that time of year again. It can only be certain brands though. Which are LG, Toshiba, HP and Sony. I am looking to spend around AU$1500 so the real price will be around AU$3000.
It also has to be better than my current laptop, which is a COMPAQ with specs of:
Intel Pentium M processor 1.80 Ghz
1.00GB Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
Any suggestions?
I will be using it for general purpose use. A student, with the occasional gaming.
If you don't want to look at the prices, just tell me the models and i will work it all out.
Cheers. ;)

Answer:
Re: Help choosing a laptop.
the x1600 is a stronger card and the core duo is a more powerful processor. so i would think that it is definitely better than your older one.
