Question:
Confused
Hello,
Thanks to those of you that started this forum, and for allowing someone like me, who, at this point, is dazed and confused, to ask questions. :)
I've been reading magazines and searching the internet for weeks, hoping to get enough information to make a decision, and now I'm really confused. LOL
I appreciate all opinions and advice, that any of you are willing to take the time to share. I've answered the FAQ's below.
Thanks again,

General Questions
1) What is your budget?
-- I’d like to keep it below $1500
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
-- 15-16” screen would be okay. I’m planning on adding an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
2) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
--My biggest concern is that I get something that will work well with manipulating/editing digital photos using Adobe Photoshop. I will also be doing some desktop publishing, so graphics are pretty important. I’ll also be using it for everyday kinds of things – mostly uploading photos, internet browsing, email, keeping financial records, spreadsheets and word processing.
3) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
-- It will be on the desk most of the time, but I would like the option of taking it with me if needed.
4) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
-- No, I won’t be using it for games.
5) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
--I would like to stay away from HP.
6) How many hours of battery life do you need?
--3-4 hours would be nice, but not a deal breaker if it's less than that.
7) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
-- No, I don’t mind buying online.
8) What country are you buying this in?
-- USA
Screen Specifics
9) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
--I think because my main concern is digital photos/graphics I’d prefer widescreen.
10) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
--I’m not real sure here, I think for what I’m planning to do, the higher the resolution, the better??
11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
--Not sure, I think glossy/reflective.
Build Quality and Design
12) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
-- No
13) How long do you want this laptop to last?
-- 3-4 years would be nice.
Notebook Components
14) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
-- 80 to 120 GB.
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
--Don't know???

Re: Confused
fyi, i'm pretty sure that desktop publishing and adobe photoshop don't actually require a good gpu. you only need a good gpu for 3d work, and photos usually aren't 3d, unless you are adding your own effects. i would think that cpu power would be more important. so maybe, if you can stand matte, you should take a look at the dell d820 or d620.
