ExpressCard dedicated video??
Hey all,
I'm thinking about buying the XPS M140 with the my only hesitation being that it doesn't have dedicated video. Is it possible to buy dedicated video cards that use the ExpressCard bay?
With the old PCIMA standard, was it possible to upgrade your notebook graphics memory through a PC Card port???

Not possible :(
I'm not sure about the expresscard bay, but I doubt that even if it existed, it would not have a connection to the motherboard fast enough to be of any use. Just like how external GPU's dont work.

It is soldered to the motherboard, and is not upgradeable as it would mess up the motherboard bios.

Impossible to both questions. The bus is not nearly fast enough for video, and as posted, you can't upgrade your laptop's graphics cards.

Not entirely correct. IBM makes a docking station with a PCI-Express 16 card that works through the expresscard/54 slot pinout. It is a MUCH faster bus speed than the older cardbus setups, and can easily handle a video card.

Interesting. Through what bus is it connected then, what is behind "expresscard/54 slot"? It must be fast! Can PCI-x be extended through some other bus connection/slot/port?

Pcmcia/cardbus= pci
Expresscard= Pci-x
