Anyone know if the average computer monitor is 720p, or 480p

Question:
Anyone know if the average computer monitor is 720p, or 480p
My brother insists that they are 720p but i didn't think that they were considered hi def. (in my t.v. production class we learned that while 480p is sometimes referred to as being high def due to the higher picture quality than standard ntsc television sets, it technically isn't. only 720p and 1080i are considered hi def.)

480p is just 480 lines, progressive. Sometimes it can be considered EDTV. 720p is what you get from "Progressive-Scan DVDs", and can sometimes be considered HDTV (it depends on who you ask). 1080p/1080i is true HD, it has 1080 lines and the resolution is usually 1920x1080 on Progressive.

720P = 1280x720 resolution, 1080i = 1920x1200 resolution as posted.
