Question:
2006...
I just read a thread by Pulp indicating all of the advances in store for notebooks in 2006.
I've just about decided (and saved up enough) to by the P1 MX... But, is this a bad time to buy a new notebook? Should I wait? If so, how long?

Re: 2006...
I think the matter of the fact is, if you need it now, get it NOW, if you can wait, wait.
There is always going to be something better coming out, its how technology works

Re: 2006...
Right. If you need it now, get it, otherwise, get it when you do. That's about all we can tell you.

Re: 2006...
I guess I can make a reasonable argument that I need it now. :) Will this machine last me at least 3 years?

Re: 2006...
I don't see why it wouldn't.
Do you play 3D games? If that's the case, I would try to get a notebook with a more powerful graphics card. But still, with the exception of the ultra high-end notebooks right now, there aren't many that are going to be able to play the latest games at decent settings in three years.

Re: 2006...
Well, I do play some games- namely NBA Live 2006 and World of Warcraft. Are there other thin and light notebooks out that would be a better buy?
I remember people from this forum originally recommended the MX to me back in mid-December. Do you think there are other laptops I should look at? From your other posts, you seem to like the Z60t...
Answer:
Re: 2006...
Yes, the Z60t is a very well-built machine. I do like to recommend it, but not for 3D apps/games - it has an integrated graphics card. :(
What are your plans for future gaming? The 64MB X600 in the PortableOne MX isn't going to take you very far in terms of future gaming capabilities.
How much do you plan on spending for a new notebook? You may want to wait for one of these Sony's:

Re: 2006...
Well, I have a $2000 (give or take 300) budget for my laptop... I DO have one I'm using now, a Vaio PCG-K35, which I despise because of its weight, heat, and fan noise. I hear that heat and fan noise is a ubiquitous problem for all sonys, so I'd like to stay clear from sony for a bit.
The bulkiness is also the reason I decided that I wanted to a thin and light.
Gaming really isn't going to be a make or break point for me (as long as it can run online poker apps. :))
I think last month when I was browsing through here, there was a good amount of buzz and hype around the MX, but I guess that's died down?

Re: 2006...
Wow, those vaios DO look nice...
Dual core is the way of the future? How long of a wait for them? And they probably will be expensive, huh?

Re: 2006...
Actually, heat and fan noise isn't in all Sony Vaios, I know its hardly there in their ultraportable series, but of course those are not what you're looking for.
