iBook 14" or Compact Persario V2000?

Question:
iBook 14" or Compact Persario V2000?
Hi guys,
I'm trying to decide which notebook would be the better buy, hopefully you guys can help. I'm a college student on a pretty tight buget but I'm looking for a better laptop. I've narrowed my choices down to an apple iBook and Compact v2000. Which would be the better buy?
Among other things I want to know which would perform better an 1.42GHz PowerPC G4 or a V2000 with a Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 725A (1.6 GHz)?

Well, it really depends upon which OS you like. Do you like Mac OS X or Windows XP? Concerning speed: The P-M is faster than the PPC G4 in most apps/progams.

Pentium M is better.
Well depends do you have any experience with OS X or vice-versa Windows?

I have experience with Windows, but I think I'm computer savy enough to pick up OS X pretty quickly. Basically use my computer for web surfing, writing, photo editing, and watching DVDs.
Right now I have a dell inspion 5100(horrible machine) with a pentium-4 2.66. It's slows down and applications freeze all the time. I want something lighter more portable and is able to run multiple programs and i don't have to worry about the software and hardware problems i have with my Dell. I'm considering the iBook and V2000 because they fit into my price range with all the extras I plan on including.
What I'm getting from you guys is that the Compact V2000 is the better choice, yea?

The Compaq has the better CPU, but is not the overall better notebook. For you, the iBook will be just as fast as the Compaq will be. The iBook features better build quality and has better software (iLife '06 is amazing) than the Compaq. The only thing I'd be worried about with the iBook is compatibility and cost of software.

I think both will work for your intended uses. You can get the Compaq with a Pentium M this week at Office Depot for $600 after rebates. Plus you can customize it with a 5400RPM hard drice which will have much better system performance.

Which rebates are those zazonz? I went to the website and only found a $50 rebate. Are they running more if you go in store to buy it?

Nevermind, I found the add. As far as the original poster, I think this would be a great deal for the price. I had an Ibook G3 600mhz and really liked how solid it was. I didn't like how slow it was though.
I would think that even the base v2000 would be as fast or faster than the current ibook. Configured with a faster CPU, more ram and a faster harddrive, I'm sure the v2000 would be much faster.
If you're on a tight budget, it seems that the base v2000 for $599 after rebates is a no brainer. The Compaq won't be as solid of a machine as the ibook, but unfortunately, it's doesn't seem that there are many PC notebooks as solid as the Apple products. At least, not in this price range.

The slowness of your G3 was probably due to the slow hard drive which makes the Compaq a nice option since you can customize.

Well, not to mention that the G3 processor was more like P3 speed.
