2) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Programming, word processing, web surfing, and high-end (DX9) gaming.
3) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
I don't plan to, but maybe occasionally.
4) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Yes. Mostly RPG+FPS games like Vampire: The Masquerade and any type of adventure game. I also spend a considerable amount of time playing The Sims 2.
5) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Any brand is okay as long as laptop doesn't have the "curved" keyboard found on the Acer Ferrari 4000 and Travelmate 8100.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
Not at all if it's refundable (return if not satisfied).
9) What country are you buying this in?
Canada. In British Columbia to be exact.
10) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
WXGA, WXGA+
11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
I'd prefer matte, but glossy is also nice.
12) Are the notebook’s looks and stylishness important to you?
Yes. Top priority as a matter of fact.
13) How long do you want this laptop to last?
Around two years.
14) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
80GB should be more than enough. Maybe 100GB if the upgrade is worth it.

If you fill this out, people can make more informed recommendations. When you come across multiple choice answers, erase the ones you AREN'T interested in (makes it a lot easier to read).

Take a look at the dell Inspiron 9300, and the dv8000z. Also, what is your budget? These two laptops are on the cheaper end of the 17" desktop replacment laptops.

It's going to be hard to find a 17" with matte, they barely exist :(
And for the refundable part, unless its at a Local retailer(Like Best Buy and Future Shop), there will always be a restocking fee!
In saying that, is the refundable part still necessary?
Remember, Canada = no Dell coupons, and alot of models are missing(MSI, dv4000, etc.)

I wouldn't recommend the HP dv8000z for gaming purposes - its X200M graphics card is weak.
The Asus Z83V is your best option in a 17" size. :) You can get it at www.CanadaSys.com. You'll have to check their return policy.
I believe www.RawPowerPC.com ships to Canada - in that case, check out the MSI-1036. Very good quality, 256MB X700.

Anyway, seems like the Inspiron 9400 is my only choice. The Acer Aspire 5672 (I know it's got a 15.4" screen, but oh well) looks nice too, although I'm not too sure about the X1400 graphics. Special thanks to everyone who responded to my post.

Noooooo, don't get the Dell.
Check out Fujitsu's 17" models, I haven't kept up with the updates, but they have amazing screens.
The N6000 series right?
Beautiful laptop, solidly built. I'm not too sure which videocard it has now, but take a look.
