::Sager NP5720 vs. Acer TravelMate 8204::

Question:
::Sager NP5720 vs. Acer TravelMate 8204::
I am looking to buy a notebook in the next month or so. I was going to get Acer's Ferrari 4006....until the TravelMate 8204 was announced. I was set on getting it for abour two weeks now....until I found Sager NP5720!
I really like Sager - 7800 GTX , 17" Glossy , NumPad, 7200RPM HD...but one thing that's making me second-guess it is the CPU...Acer 8204 has a Core Duo which has top scores in CPU tests. So I have two questions:
1. I never run two CPU-intensive apps ata the same time, so multi-tasking is not huge. Would 8204's Core Duo be noticably faster than Sager's Pentium M 2.16 for "signle-tasking"? (2.26 is too expensive)?
2. Which one would have better build quality?

I'd go for the Sager if you are planning to game. The 2.13GHz Pentium M will be exceptionally fast for games, and should outpace the Core Duo from some of the benchmarks I have seen for gaming (single threaded apps).
I'd bet that the Sager has better quality.
If you wait a month or two, the new Sager NP-5720 will be out with the Core Duo. :)
From what you said about what you do though, the Pentium M will be perfectly fine.

Looks like I will be able to make a purchase in the end of Feb/first week of March - maybe there will me another notebook available to compete with these two. But, yeah, I am leaning towards the Sager right now...
Thx for the reply

For my two cents I would lean toward one of the top established brands. You know they will be in business two or three years down the line. In this case Acer all the way. My first computer was the second tier E-machimes and I was scammed on the rebate and scammed on the support services.

Sager has been in business for over 20 years. They're not going anywhere.
With the introduction of the NP-5720 and the 9750, their sales have been skyrocketing.

I assume you would be doing some intense gaming because the sager has a 7800 GTX which is one killer graphics card. If you don't need to do such intense gaming then I would suggest going for the not quite as powerful but much cooler x1600; you will still be able to play on the newest games at high settings with it.

E-Machines is not a second tier brand, more like third... fourth... our whatever you want to consider last-tier... If cracker jack put a laptop in a box it'd be an e-machine.
You should have no qualms about buying a sager. I too have struggled with the Acer/Sager choice. I put an 8204 on pre-order and now I'm having second thoughts that maybe I should be getting a 17" now and a ultra-portable later for traveling. Good luck with your decision.

i would just go for the N5720 right now, and the next time you get a new notebook the 64bit Intel processors will be out and then you can upgrade to that in the future, and by that time there will actually be a decent amount of software that can utilize 64bit, etc.
does the acer have a X1600? nothing really compares to the 7800 Go GTX in terms of performance.
the single core processor won't really be any slower at all for gaming and many other programs until they start to make multi threaded software right? i'm sure the single core N5720 will be cheaper once the dual core comes out so i would go with the 5720.

If you got the cash to burn, get the sager. The 7800 GTX is one beast of a card.

to me graphics card is most important, because all the tasks i do that are intensive on my notebook involve either rendering or playing games. the gtx 7800, in the 5720, for the price, is something above any other notebook... Of course with 2 gigs of ram u couldn't go wrong. Hey doom 3 will still run on the x1600. might even wait for the x1800. I just like nvidia a lot better because the geforce cards run nicely when modded for maya.
