Adding RAM to Laptop

Question:
Adding RAM to Laptop
I have asked this in another section but no one has responded, so I thought I would make a thread on this, since it is urgent for me.
I will be buying the V4000T of hpshopping.com today or tomorrow. Would it be smart to get the least amount of RAM, and buy RAM of newegg.com or wherever and put it in? This I know would cost less, and I possibly could get more RAM. Can you guys tell me if it is difficult to put RAM into a laptop. I have done it on a desktop before obviouslly, and its a piece of cake, 30 seconds. But on a laptop, I don't know how, is it easy? Is it just as simple as opening it up and putting it in? Or is there more to it. Also, do you think doing the same with the Hard Drive is smart also? Can you tell me how easy that is also?
And if you say getting RAM and hard drive and putting it in is easy, can you send me a link of some good RAM (both 1 and 2 GB) and Hardrive (the best you can find for $60) to buy please. Thanks so much.

Yes, take the 256MB from HP. I was stupid and put in the slower HP RAM. I added a another 512 stick later, "piece of cake". A couple of screws and just pop it in.

it will be cheaper to buy the ram urself. Find out what ram u need and search for it on ebay, that'll save u $$$

Re: Adding RAM to Laptop
Would it be too much to ask for some pics or a link to some pics that shows the inside of a laptop, and like where the screws are that you unscrew, and then where you put in the RAM. That would help a lot. Thanks.

Re: Adding RAM to Laptop
HP has some great online documentation that details how to remove/install memory, give that a look. You can find it on their support site.

Since we're getting some answers, which one of those three would be the best for a v4000t?
Kingston:

(This one is supposed to be designed for HP laptops... the Kingston Memory Finder suggests the use of this one)
Another Kingston...

G-SKILL

Knowing if they all fit, whether one is better than the other, etc. would be a great help for making a purchase decision... also, what about removing the HD and installing a 7,200 RPM one? I've seen some Hitachis on NewEgg, but in some models I just can't tell the difference...
