Question:
Help me finding a lappy please :)
Hi this is my first post at computer-notebook.com (yeah, newb)
Since I do not know much about laptops, I'm really frustrated right now...
help me please!
1) What size notebook would you prefer?
- 13'' to 14'' (would like to avoid 12'', but 15'' is okay)
2) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
- internet
schoolwork (MS office, MATLAB and stuff)
some gaming (not gonna play games with heavy 3D
graphics like HL2 or Doom3)
3) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
- take it to different places
4) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
- sorry can't think of one... but not like HL2 as
mentioned
5) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
- none really... as long as the company is trustworthy
6) How many hours of battery life do you need?
- not that important...
7) What is your budget?
- around 1100
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
- No problem.
9) What country are you buying this in?
- USA
10) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
- I don't mind as long as it's bright and clear
11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
- would prefer matte(if I try to be picky), but I don't mind
12) Are the notebook’s looks and stylishness important to you?
- nope
13) How long do you want this laptop to last?
- 3 -4 years (I hope)
14) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
- 60 gb would be enough (can be over tho :) )
15) Do you need a DVD, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-R drive?
- yup DVD-RW
I have researched on my own and thought turion seems to be a good choice for me ($$$)... but I couldn't really find a good laptop that matches my needs...
compaq v2000z was the only matching one but it was using turiong 64 ML only... (I heard battery life for ML sux)
and I was looking at MSI-1029 and it looks like I can get a really good laptop for the price if I put turion MT 34 and 1gb ram or something... (but wanted to see if there were any other good deals for me before I do anything with this plan)
if you would recommend above setting with MSi1029, what ram and hardd rive would you recommand?
also, I only need to get cpu, hard drive and ram only to have a fully built laptop right?
Thank you for reading and hopefully I get some helpful replies here :D

If you are concerned with battery life, why not the Pentium M version of the v2000?

Re: Help me finding a lappy please :)
Compaq v2000z and HP L2000 last about 2.5 hours on average with 6 cell battery. The battery life of the Turion is not bad at all, don't be mistaken. There are a number of reasons for v2000z to last only 2.5 -3 hours max, one of them being that the 6 cell that it uses is smaller in capacity as compared to the one Pentium Ms use in v2000. Get the 12 cell battery if you need the battery life - it will get you upto 6 hours internet browsing and basic use.
A larger 15'' verison of v2000z is the v5000z which will also fit your budget. Look them up at HP Shopping

If you plan on doing any sort of graphical work, I would take the V2000Z over the V2000 - the Z has the Radeon Xpress 200M graphics, which are a big improvement over the V2000's Intel 900.
