The FNW TL-2 thread got me wondering about whether there are any other gaming laptops at the 13-14" range, short of the Falcon and the Sony SZ series.

What type of gaming are you planning on doing? You won't find anything above a 64MB dedicated card in a 14" right now.

The ASUS w3v with ati X600 is nice, but it pales in comparison with the SZ. Read the review

I'd say wait for the Sony SZ, but right now:
Compal EFL-30 - 64MB Nvidia Go6400
MSI-1022 - comparable to the Compal.
Both are avaliable at www.RawPowerPC.com
You're not going to get that great of a gaming experience in a 13-14" size, it just won't happen.

You are likely to be correct, but the laptop must be light enough to carry around and perform other functions.
I am hoping that when the Merom processors come out, the graphics boards may also be improved.

Yeah - right now, a good gaming experience in a 13-14" size isn't practical.
How long can you wait? I would wait as long as possible. We should see nice improvements in smaller notebooks as far as power is concerned.

My goal is sometime in the 4th quarter of this year. If the Meroms come out in September, there should be many laptops out before the end of the year..

Yes - then you should definitely wait. Any notebook we would recommend to you now (with the possible exception of the Sony SZ) would probably be either outdated or discontinued by then.
