hard drive question

Re: hard drive question
Yes, Acer notebooks come with two partitions.
You'll have to either merge partitions with software or reformat the drive in order to get the full capacity.
The reason the drive is in two partitions is because Acer's backup utility keeps an image (I think) of the main partition on the other. They also use the FAT32 filing system for that reason, which slows down the notebook.
I would first back up your files (just in case), then merge the partitions with software (such as Norton PartitionMagic), then convert the filing system to NTFS. The latter is easy to do, takes about five minutes. Google for results on how to do it.

Re: hard drive question
No, everything will remain intact.
You don't change it with the software. Try a google search as I said - FAT32 to NTFS conversion.

Re: hard drive question
Darby, I really couldn't tell you . . I don't own that software.
If it won't let you, then I would do an Internet search and try to find another program. I know that PCMag recently did a comparison between a bunch of partition managing software, perhaps check that out.

Re: hard drive question
Thing is, don't those conversion programs sometimes corrupt your windows installation?
I've never encountered a conversion program that does it 100% without any glitches.
Best bet would be to format and do a fresh install of windows.
That's my suggestion.
