Question:
Acer, HP or Zepto for college
Heya
thx for the respond in my first post, I have boiled thing down and I stand with 3 choises:
Acer
Zepto Znote 6615WD
HP Compaq nc8430
Acer 8200-series
I am still a bit unsure what to pick, I want a notebook wich will stand to many years and have a good quality.
Hp seems nice, but I am unable to find any better then 80GB 5400rpm HDD, 1024 MB RAM, will this be enogh for a notebook that shall do eg CAD and should last 4-5 years?
Zepto sounds as a good company, but I have not seen any review of 6615WD yet or expirience of it.
Acer, well, many is unhappy others love it, seem many good reviews of it too.
Hope you can help me decide :D

the hp would probably last you the longest b/c it has business quality build. you can always upgrade the hd and ram if you find that it is insufficient for your needs. depending on your location, there should be the lg s1/p1 or samsung x60 for other nice notebooks with the x1600 and decent quality build.

Something like the Dell D820 with the Quadro graphics card is specifically designed to do CAD.

i hav a 6615wd on the way to me. i dont know what kind of deals you will get on the acer and hp because it seems to be different if your in usa (assuming you are). but the 6615wd is a bargain. i havnt seen a review of it either but trustedreviews.com spoke highly of the 6214w, which is a lower spec zepto. you should check out their review.

how is the quality of Dell D820 compared to HP nc8430?
And will the Quadro card in D820 really be that much better then X1600, eventhough it is a low end quadro card?

the quadro cards will probably be better for cad and other 3d programs b/c it was designed as such. but if you game, it will be much worse. i would look into the hp nw8440. it has the firegl v5200 which is a workstation card based of the x1600.

Thx for the info, actually I had a talk today with Dell and with your idea of HP nw8440 it seems I have following CAD notebooks to think of:
HP nw8440
Dell Precision M65
With Dell I have the chance to get 2GB RAM, while I "only" can get 1GB with HP, but what dp you people have to say in the matter of quality between those 2? and what gfx will be best?

I have sended a mail to the university and I will soon know how much CAD notebooks matter in the studie I am going after.

well, you can always upgrade the ram. it's quite easey. the graphics i think are fairly similar. i think the card in the m65 is based on the 7600go while the firegl v5200 is based on the x1600. in benchmarks the x1600 has the slight edge....but i don't know if that really correlates to their workstation counterparts. one thing is that the hp nw8440 i believe weighs a bit less so it is more portable.
