Question:
640m/e1405 decision help please!
On the Dell Canada website there's currently a 2 different good deals running for the 640m/e1405.
deal one: Intel Core processor Duo T2500 (2MB Cache/2.0GHz/667MHz FSB) for $899 (CAN), 80gig 5400rpm hdd
deal two: Intel Core processor DUO T2050 (2MB Cache/1.60GHz/533MHz FSB)
for $849 (CAN), 100gig 5400rpm hdd
All other specs about the two laptops are the same.
intel wireless card
windows xp home
14.1 widescreen w/ truelife
512mb ddr2 sdram 1 dimm
8x dvd burner
Which one sounds like the best deal? (typical usage will be encoding home videos, some game playing at lowest quality, word processing, dvd viewing)

The T2500. It'll put you ahead on the encoding video, and if you go past 80 gigs with what you're doing, you'll probably go past 100 too... so you'd be managing it with an external hard drive or making use of that dvd burner or something anyways.

They are both good deals. If you encode video, you need need more CPU power to process the data. You can always get an external HD.
I would recommend an aftermarket upgrade to 1 GB RAM.

No doubt about it, the T2500 configuration is a better deal. The bigger hard drive is worth practically nothing, but the much better CPU is definitely worth at least $50.
