Help me find a cheap laptop!
Hey y'all! I need to help my parents find a laptop for pretty cheap. I've been looking at the Acer 5672 but I was wondering about some other options.
General Questions
1) What is your budget?
About $1000, maybe a little more but they want to pay with a credit card that they can get from the store, hopefully with a relatively low interest rate. Something like a best buy card or newegg.com card.
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
It will be for my dad, who is returning to grad school. He wants internet browsing, word processing, cd/dvd burning, and maybe some gaming (not that important).
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Some travel, not too much.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
A little; hopefully modern games but probably won't be able to handle game like oblivion on my budget.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Nope
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
2+ hours
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
Online or in-store is fine.

Buying between now and the end of august. Last hopefully at least 3 years.

Well there's the Dell e1505...maybe a HP dv5000t if you can stretch your budget some

The Dell Latitude D820 is worth considering, but will push you toward the high-end of your budget.

You can probably find a Turion in the sale ads from Best Buy or Circuit City or Office Depot, etc for around $650-$750 which would do most of what you want.

the acer 5672 will probably give you the best gaming capability in your price range....not considering the s96j/compal hel80.
