Question:
Asus Z71V v. Compal HEL80 v. Asus S96J
Hi all,
Any thoughts, pros and cons, etc. re. the Asus Z71V (near end of life, I think) v. S96J v. HEL80? I need something inexpensive, reliable, with high res screen and independent vid card.
Are there significant downsides to getting a Z71V now, since it's been discontinued?

The Z71, while cheap, features an outdated processor. It depends on your usage and needs though, but I would go for one of the other two you are looking at--much more powerful for just a little more.

The Z71v is a good laptop, but obviously near its end of its life, unless it'll get 'refreshed' soon.
The other two are very excellent options, no doubt about it.

I didn't know what the etiquette was for posting multiple threads v. putting everything in one. The reason I started one was to facilitate search on subject keywords, seeing as my original thread didn't have any.

The Z71V was good in its time . . now it is relatively outdated as posted. The processor is single-core (the best performing processors right now are the Core Duos, which is essentially like two Pentium Ms on the same chip, but faster).
Also, the 128MB Go6600 is going to be outperformed by the Go7600 256MB and the X1600 256MB in the Compal and Asus respectively.
Between the HEL80 and S96J, the latter will have faster 3D performance.
