Asus Z96j vs. Compal HEL80
I've narrowed it down to 2 logical choices that offer what I want/need.

The Z96j seems to be a better purchase for the better graphics card included (ATi X1600 w/ up to 512mb). I've heard good things about both laptops. I want YOU to tell me your opinion. Thanks in advance.

i prefer matte screen, but the asus looks cool, has a better gfx, and, well, just looks like it was designed this century (unlike the compal)

You can't really go wrong either way, but I'd choose Asus for all the reasons stated above, by you and others. Considering weight, avg battery life, ports, and networking (WiFi/BT) are pretty much the same... Asus all the way.

what else are you adding to get their prices that high? at those specs the price is lower.. are you adding a dvd burner, windows, bluetooth, wifi, etc?
basically if you want a Matte Screen, a finger print reader, or more battery life.. go for Compal. If you like glossy screen and slightly better gpu, go for the Asus.

Nothing extra.. just what I say there. I like glossy better... and the graphics card is underclocked on the Compal while the Asus graphics card is better... so that puts me in favor of the Asus. But I've heard of grainy screen issues for the Asus, and the games I'm considering on playing (Counter-Strike: Source, Half Life 2, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, Warcraft 3, maybe some of the newer games) don't require too high performance of a graphics card. So that puts me in favor of the Compal HEL80. But the Asus Z96j has better value (better gfx card and bluetooth built in) and still is 20 bucks less. But the battery life on the HEL80 is better, while there are some scroll pad issues for it. The Asus certainly looks better, and the higher res format is matte on the HEL80, but the grainy screen issue still might be a problem.
And in general, I have heard the WSXGA screens can't handle certain games because they are widescreen, so it would seem to cost less and just take a regular and glossy screen in WXGA. With that extra money, I could invest in more memory so I could play games faster, though they wouldn't look as pretty. I really don't want to make a decision I'll regret (I almost did while choosing schools!) so I need some input from you guys. To summarize this post:
Are the risks with the grainy screen worth it for the Asus just to get glossy higher resolution and a better GFX card (even though I may not need it)?
and
Should I just go regular 1200x800 res on the HEL80 (if I buy it) to get glossy and to have smoother performance on games and use the extra cash to get more memory?
