Faster processor or faster hard drive??

Question:
Faster processor or faster hard drive??
Which is more useful and will give you better performance.. im getting an e1505 and im using the 750 off a 2000 system, by getting the price up to 2000, i can get those items for free witht the increased discount from the 30% coupon.. so either i can upgrade the harddrive from 120 gb 5200 rpm - 100 gb 7200 rpm or i can increase the processor from 1.83 ghz - 2 ghz .. what would you recomend? I would upgrade the ram to 2 gb.. but they charge an ungodly $250-300 for that..

i would say get the hard drive or anti-virus b/c the processor is not worth it unless you are into a lot of photoshop

This depends a lot on the sort of task I think... I do hear it's definately worth upgrading to a 7200 RPM drive.

Re: Faster processor or faster hard drive??
nothing hardcore.. some gaming (hl2 and cs source), photoshop everyonce in a while but nothing special, a lot of music, dvds, doing 4 things at once.. i have a few more options too.. basically ive decided to go for the 2000 set up because ill get things cheap that i want/will help in the long run..
so im choosing between..
tv tuner (think im really gonna want at one point but i know you can get it cheaper for other sources sometimes)
faster processor (i dont think ill ready need it but it couldnt hurt)
faster harddrive (same as above)
accidental coverage for warrenty (im going to college so im pretty sure i should have this.. )
virus software (def. gonna need this at some point but they dont give you as many options, and im pretty sure i can find this cheaper elsewhere too.. like at my schools computing store.. what virus company do you recomend anyways? )
thanks a lot to all who can help.. i want my laptop!!! lol

This has been discussed and debated at great length:

Re: Faster processor or faster hard drive??
So the configurations you are looking at are identical with the exception of the hard drive and processor:

-100GB 7200RPM + T2400 1.83GHz
-120GB 5400RPM + T2500 2.0GHz
However, you posted this later on:

as for anti virus. i used to use NORTON whcih i take it everyone knows hogs your ram and jsut aobut every other thing! now im using keparsky (good reviews) and its really great. much more gentle on your hardware usage.
then again......fi you can compensate like chaz said! two birds with one stone!

Re: Faster processor or faster hard drive??
I'm in the same boat, kinda. Though I do think I may end up getting both processor (1.66-->1.83) and getting a 7200 rpm hd...though if I had to choose one I think I'd get the hd upgrade, after reading through that long thread titaniummd posted.

I'd chose the hard drive. In fact, I did ;).
