High End Laptop For Visuall Effects
i need a high end laptop for graphic use.
i would be using it mainly for digital fusion, after effects & shake, along with 3ds max and other 3d applications.
also it would be used intensely for photoshop.
i would run for long hours on end. maybe like 10-12 hrs at one go.
i think on the graphics front it has to be quadro. on the processor front, i do not know much about them. need help here.
100gb hdd should be fine. is there a sata 7200 in laptops too? i need a lot more hdd. but i would make do with external usb/firewire hdds. they come a lot cheaper.
should have all the important video ports dvi, s-video, firewire, dual monitors and others.
battery life not an issue. since it would be mostly plugged in all the time.
in the small amount of research i did i found the following to suit my needs:
Dell Precision M90 & HP Compaq nw9440
nw9440 is expensive though.
my budget hovers around £1900 to £2100 max.
am based in india but will be using the laptop primarily in uk.
i have also heard about alienware & boxx. but dunno if they are available in india or uk.
i know that it would only be sensible to go for a desktop. but my situation doesnt allow me to. i would be roaming(shifting my place) a lot, therefor portability is a concern.

Based on your requirements, a good notebook would be the HP dv8000t. It has a 17" screen, and can be configured with an Intel Core Duo processor, optional dual hard drives with upto 240GB of storage, and has a discrete graphics card (NVIDIA GO 7600), all of which are suited for graphics editing and stuff.

the m90 is your best bet b/c it has the best gpu for 3d work, the fx 2500m. the hp only comes with the 1500m.

are there any laptops available with athlon x2 and a quadro in the UK.
think that would be an excellent combo for my kinda work.
like the BOXX. but they arent available. are already expensive and unaffordable, shipping only adds insult to injury.
considering that i would be running it for hours and hours. and that amd's are/were known for heating problems. you think it would be the same for amd laptop chipsets too?
