The XPS 1210 fits the bill pretty nicely. You can also consider the Asus W3J or the Sony SZ series.

The XPS 1210 fits the bill pretty nicely. You can also consider the Asus W3J or the Sony SZ series. Thats what everyone has been saying, I just don't know what to pick between them... :-/
Answer:
Re: Eyeing the XPS M1210
Well.. From what i've read
The SZ series are a little overpriced for what I'm looking for in them. They are also said to be a little flimsy
The W3J looks nice and is on par with what I'm looking for but I know that their tech support is awful. And they don't sell it at the dealer I would prefer to get it from (NewEgg)
The M1210 is exactly what im looking for, its said to be sturdy and well build. Dell has pretty good tech support.
So if any owners of those laptops can give a post if what I'm thinking is right, that'd be great. Especially the M1210 and the W3J, since those are still new. Thanks

Re: Eyeing the XPS M1210
i don't know why people complain so much about asus support. dell and hp support is pretty bad. also, with asus, you probably go through your reseller to asus, so if you have a good reseller, then you experience can be quite good. some good resellers are proportable.com, geared2play.com, and powernotebooks.com. the w3j is definitely the most powerful. of the gpus, the xps actually has the worst b/c its 7400go has only 64 mb of dedicated memory. another one to consider is the portableone mx (asus a8jm). they don't go through asus since they customize the a8jm. they are reputed to have very good customer service.

Well, I've narrowed to down to the W3J and the M1210, the only thing stopping me now is the Linux support of the W3J's ATI card, if it is good, then I will likely go with it.

Re: Eyeing the XPS M1210
well, the a8jm comes with teh 7600go which should be fine with linux.

Re: Eyeing the XPS M1210
is weight and portability an important factor for you? because the m1210 is about 1 1/2 lbs lighter than the a8jm.
oh and i personally think that sony has better build quality than dell.
