Question:
Cheap Lap Top After my Dell crapped out on me
Here's the deal I had a Dell Inspiron 8200 thats about 5 years old. After much frustration and many hours spent with Dell Technical Support and several crashes later my laptop finally died a sad death. Since Im not really up for replacing the motherboard Im looking for something else (and definately not a Dell).
Im moving to Africa for a couple of years with the Peace Corps so I don't have a lot of money and since Im anticipating some rough conditions I'd like to spend no more than $500 on a laptop which Im unsure if thats realistic or not.
All I really want a laptop for is basic word processing capabilities, to listen to music, play DVDs, and connect to the Internet and download pictures onto it. I dont really play computer games or anything so I dont need anything fancy.
Also Im going to Taiwan next week so I thought it might be possible to get a better deal there on a laptop but I'm unsure. Any guidance that anyone could provide on this issue would be much appreciated.

If you want to spend 500$, there is really only one notebook I can reccomend that is worthwhile.

You're going to have to spend more than $500! Yoiu need a durable , good res screen as well. You should doubl;e your budget considering your last laptop lasted 5 years, you should spend more.

try this one out...
it is 500 after rebate.
it's not a gaming computer that is for sure but it has a celeron 1.5 ghz(which can outpreform a P4 @ 2.4ghz). 40gb hdd, dvd read 15.4 inch wide. and i believe it has wifi. i will check again and i will post again latter...

sorry some of data was a little off above,
it doesn't have a celeron m it has a sempron 3100+ about 1.8ghz (clock speed is faster than the celeron)
and it has a 15.0 inch screen not a 15.4 inch screen
i hope that help's...
for the money that you are spending this would probably be the best you could really get.
