Question:
High(er) end?
Hi all,
First time here. I'm looking for a total replacement for my desktop machine, specifics below:
1) What is your budget?
Up to $1700 or online monthly dealer payments.
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Desktop Programming (c#,c++ etc), Web Development, Graphics, Business and Games
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Taking it to clients, but mostly home and in the office.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Counter Stike:Source and HL2 don't care about effects (HDR etc) as long as they're playable in 1024*768.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Anything I can pay on a monthly base is ok. Have no experience with buying laptops for myself but have sold quite a few back in the day.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
2 hours+ wallplugs are always around in my daily routine.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
Preferrably online.
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?
United States
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
Don't really care but must have DVI or VGA output.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Standard
c. UXGA - 1600x1200 - Very small text and graphics icons, you can fit lots of stuff on the screen.
Widescreen
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Don't care.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Not at all. Weight neither as long as I can throw it in my car I'll be fine.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
Buying anytime now, and want it to last for at least 2-3 years.
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
As much as possible currently have around 800GB combined internal drives and external. It's impossible for notebooks, I know so at least 120GB. I have some major installations.
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
DVD/RW, but optional.
Thanks in advance any replies would be greatly appreciated. :)

Off the top of my head, the Dell 9400 comes to mind.

Re: High(er) end?
your best bet would be the dell e1705 that zaz mentioned with the dell coupon codes or a 35% off coupon from ebay. the hp dv8000t would be worth a look as well.
