Question:
gameing laptop?
hey guys and girls! now heres the on going question. I am looking into buying a laptop which I want to be able to have the power to play seryous games, as well as be somewhat portable. I have been looking into the HP ZD 8000 series ( which also puts a bit of perspective on just how portable I am demanding.......which means not to much but somewhat), but it makes it challenging being a canadian in canada to get his hands on sutch a amercian product. I am willing to be doing upgrading, but I really have very little knowledge as to what laptop/desktop replacements can even be up graded or which ones would be a good buy. I am a student, so naturally funds are lacking. but I feel I need one and if I am buying one I want it to do........ what I want it to. so please give me your thoughts and I am all ears. I am not going to be buying anything for a little while and I want to make sure I have an educated decision befor I make one. thank you all for looking and I look forward to hearing what you all have to say.
sincearly, Mr.Giggles

Re: gameing laptop?
The Pentium 4 is not a very good notebook CPU. The Dell 9400 is a better budget gaming notebook.

Re: gameing laptop?
now is this computer up gradable if I come across some liquafiable cash? and what really makes a good gameing laptop then? I have dealt with and bulit up some good desktops (which lead to my want for a laptop that could do eveything I wan it to,to a acceptable degree of efficency) but I can't say I know mutch about laptops other than the fact that there different and key parts work differently. I know what it takes to make a good desktop and gameing computer but i am definatly no expert by any means. thank you anyone!

Re: gameing laptop?
Perhaps you should consider the FAQ and post back. Most notebook GPUs are not upgradeable, but the Dell is though it is a little more tricky than a desktop.

Re: gameing laptop?
Definitly fill out the FAQ when you have the time.... We really need to know your budget, what games you will be playing what size of notebook you prefer etc.
Answer:
Re: gameing laptop?
hey guys, thanks for your help. ok the faq answers are as follows:
1) What is your budget? about 1500 for just the computer I will have more for things like the warrenty and shipping, etc.
2) What size notebook would you prefer? c. or d. doesn't really matter to me, as long as its a little portable, prefromance is more inportant in my mind.
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? gameing, word, school tasks ( word and busniess activities) I am also into video editing, and or multi media activities.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? I will be taking it different places.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? yes, half life 2 ( thats a good example of what I want to be able to do), rome total war, Darkstar one, manily stratagy and role playing really.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? not really , as long as they have a good rep I am happy.
7) How many hours of battery life do you need? as many as possible, I will aim for about 3 but most places I will bring this unit I will have acess to an outlet so its not a major pryority, but I will need more than 20 minuets in school.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
no I don't mind, as long as theres a security system in place that I can verify its authenticity but there will be alot more research done befor hand.
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in? Very proud Canadian
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
wide screen but not to picky havn;t had much experience with widescreen, thus I wouldn't know what I am missing.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
depending on the screen I think I will pick the middle point for each. on standard I know I prefer b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA and I can only assume choice e. for widescreen
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
hummm I think I would prefer glossy. Te only time Ican play games is at niht and the media component of time and I think I will want the option of clear viewing when I am working on media components.
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
not at all, simple but effictive works for me.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? pleanty of time, I will be buying this laptop in about 3-5 months time.
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
I am aiming anywear from 80-120GB
16) Do you need an optical drive? DVD-CD/RW
P.S. I am not shy to upgrade when I can afford to!
Thanks all!
