Question:
Acer Vs. Asus
Okay, I've been looking at notebooks for awhile now, and I'm stuck. I found a great deal on an Asus notebook: http://powernotebooks.com/product.php?itemId=1430
Upgraded the RAM and HD, price $1300.
BUT
A local reseller sells Acer Aspires. the Aspire would cost about $300 more, and the processer still wouldn't be duel Core, and the Graphics card would only be a X1400. I've been told by the store owner that Asus tech support is bad, Acer tech support is good. I've been told Acer Build quality is bad. What is true? I want to buy from the Local reseller because he has been so nice to me, but the Asus looks like a great deal. Any help I can get would be much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Acer Vs. Asus
Acer's, in my opinion have had a bad reputation over the years, which I tend to agree with. Great tech support, whether true or not, on an inferior product is of really no value to you. I would choose and ASUS product any day. The quality and reputation is of the highest in the industry... And let's face it, If I am a local reseller, I would be trying to sell my Acers too... (Though I would not be selling Acers...) Just my thoughts.

Re: Acer Vs. Asus
asus > acer. Better design, better performace, better quality, better materials, but at a higher price.

Re: Acer Vs. Asus
The S96j isn't the best built nor uses the best materials, but its your best bang for the buck. Customer service may be questionable, depending on your reseller, but all VBI(Verified by Intel) notebooks, such as the S96j has a 2 year warranty, from Intel. Since the basic warranty is from the dealer you buy it from, the srvice depends. I know for sure that if you get it from such retailers as Geared2Play @ www.geared2play.com , you'll get great tech support, since they are real people at a real store doing real service, not reps in India, etc.

Re: Acer Vs. Asus
Definetly asus over acer.....
U dont have to worry about asus customer service cause u'll be getting ure warranty from powernotebooks (3 year warranty..i suggest u read it on their website...cant really beat it anywhere) i'm waiting on the SAME laptop from the SAME company (i made my decision after a month of research) they r one of the best resellers out there with real comp technicians answering their tech support calls...check them out on resellerratings.com.
The laptop itself is definetly the best bang for ure buck and the quality is gr8. Now for the "what's the catch" question (u know u were gonna ask it!!)...there r 2...1- the looks r "plain", nothing fancy so if ure looking for eye candy look somewhere else....2- the speakers r'nt the loudest out there.
These r the 2 "drawbacks" (if u want to call them that) other than that it's a well built, high quality power house and i would recommend it to anyone looking for just that...i suggest u go onto the asus thread here and read all the reviews on the S96J and resellerratings.com to check out powernotebooks.com give them a call too..dont need to buy anything off of them,,,just ask anything (i should work for them with this kind of advertising!!! lol)
Enjoy!!:D

Re: Acer Vs. Asus
Asus > Acer. The S96J is well built for the price you pay, customer service will come from the reseller, not Asus.
I have yet to see anybody complain about the reseller powernotebooks.com. Read their warranty and give them a call if you have further doubts.

Re: Acer Vs. Asus
I own an Acer. I do agree that it's not the best out there. But I got my Aspire 5672WLMi for 1025,and that performance/price couldn't be beat. But that was a while back. I do hear that Asus are better built. I haven't used one so I can't say. BUT, the S96J gives the same bang for buck now that my Acer gave me then.
