General University stuff.. listen to music, take notes, MS Office usage mostly, play mp3's, watch dvd's, etc

Taking it around from class to class

No, games are not imporant in this case!

Nope!

AS MANY AS I CAN GET! Second most important thing after price

80 gb is good, somewhere around there

Yeah, defintiely dvd drive, burner is a plus!

I would recommend the Acer Aspire 5102 if you like AMD or the Aspire 5672 if you like Intel. Both are under $1000, depending on where you look, i.e. Amazon.com, Circuit City....

Just browse around... check out HP, Dell, maybe Lenovo. Acer's are decent for the price, but dell's are a better value and have a better build quality (except for the self-combusting batteries ;P ) but try to get at least a 9 cell battery if you want to stay mobile for a while (12 cell would be ideal) check out the notebook deals section of this forum and the deals section on this site (link at top of page)
