Ferrari 5000 vs W3J

Question:
Ferrari 5000 vs W3J
I was waiting to see if merom apeared before I had to purchase, but I need my laptop for next week, 2 weeks as most, so I have limited to what I can get in this time to Asus W3J or Acer Ferrari 5000 (although it isn't still in the market, I have called some stores wich say that it will be available in the time I need). I will be using my notebook mainly for gaming and CAD programes from colleges. I have read about both laptops and like them very much. I prefer the ferrari 5000 because of the 64-bit capability but I am afraid of the heat production which is significant with AMD procesors. Can anybody give me any suggestions on what should I do because I can't make up my min.

Comparing a 14" with a 15.4" isn't exactly fair . . the Asus is the best built and most portable, while offering similar power versus the Ferrari, while the latter looks better in my opinion, plus comes with a bunch of 'interesting' accessories. Where did you hear the Acer ran hot? I'd like to see a link.

I personally prefer 15.4" screencs. Also, the 64-bit capability is a huge advantage because it can run Vista. 32-bit versions of Vista isn't much of a jump from win-XP.

Not to make your decision any harder, but have you looked at the ASUS A8Jm & COMPAL HGL30 (14.1") or the ASUS S96J/Z96J, COMPAL HEL80, or HP nc8430 (15.4").
I think all of the above will give you the same performance for less money. Unless the looks of the W3J and the Ferrari are key...

Re: Ferrari 5000 vs W3J
I would opt for the W3J. Acer quality cannot compare with Asus when it comes to notebooks. The Acer looks nice...I really like the carbon fiber but in my experience if you get an Acer you will probably hate useing it once the hinges become horribly unsmooth and loud and the plastic because all worn out looking this usually takes less than a year of use. Having a 64 bit processor is a plus but I would look else where for one. The W3J is a great computer and would be my choice of the two.

Re: Ferrari 5000 vs W3J
the w3j is plenty powerful..and i doubt that 64bit will be mainstream for a while..14" is really the best for college since it is portable enough to take to all of your classes but still big enough for use at home even w/o an external monitor
