1024/768 is fine for standard.. and Wide screen any would be fine just want a sharp looking screen

The ThinkPad X series is a 12" and has no optical drive built-in, so you should look at the ThinkPad T43 or T60 series in the 14" size if you like the ThinkPad form factor and the fingerprint reader. They're good notebooks for school due to their ruggedness, but their screens and selection of ports aren't that fantastic -- it's what I used in school to get me through a few years ago though!

If no games are in your future then go for an integrated graphics card but if you are thinking of even playing future games then go for a dedicated GPU. Check out the Asus W3J/W7J, HP dv2000t, I second the Lenovo T60...yup.

PortableOne UX might be worth a look. It is nice and light and has a magnesium case.

The X series needs a dock in order for me to load a CD at all. On there site looking at it it shows a spot for a drive without the dock. Can anybody clear this up?
